ESTES PARK VILLAGE
In 1859, after the Ute and Arapaho Indians roamed this rich hunting ground, a Missouri native and pioneer Joel Estes founded the village and in 1864 the valley was named after him. Today, creative shops, art galleries, local artisans, boutiques and many excellent restaurants can be discovered. Estes Park is also known for live music events and festivals throughout the year, such as Gypsy Jazz concerts, the Scandinavian Midsummer in June or the Scottish Irish Highland Festival in September, providing ample opportunities for cultural experiences and fun!
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
President Woodrow Wilson established the RMNP in January 1915. Trail Ridge Road, completed in 1932, which is the highest continuous paved road in America, cresting an elevation of 12,183 feet above sea level and crosses the Continental Divide at Milner Pass. The park also boasts, Long’s Peak, with an elevation of 14,259 feet above sea level. Park rangers offer a number of interesting field-based classes on photography, wildflowers, birds, painting, writing and more.
From hiking into the backcountry, to exhilarating hikes, RMNP offers gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, scenic drives, horseback rides photography… many opportunities to enjoy this beautiful park. An abundance of bighorn sheep, elk, moose and pica, lovely waterfalls, subalpine meadows and forests of pine and aspen that shimmer with brilliance in the autumn, pristine alpine lakes, tundra life and incredible views make you feel like you’re on top of the world! A favorite quote from our Innkeeper definitely describes time well spent in the RMNP; “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away!” (anonymous)
STANLEY HOTEL
The majestic Stanley Hotel, built in 1909 by F.O. Stanley, remains a beautiful historic legacy. He also built Estes Park’s first power plant on Fall River, developed the dry plate photography process and invented the Stanley Steamer automobile, which is showcased in the main lobby of the Stanley Hotel. Several restaurants, café and interesting historical tours are also available.
WINTER
RMNP has great powder for snowboarding, snow tubing and sledding, snowshoeing, telemark skiing, cross country skiing trails, ice skating and ice fishing on various lakes. The winter festivals create a lively and fun time, such as; Valentine’s Day celebration, Wine and Chocolate Festival, Winter Trails Day and Whiskey Warm Up! The various fireplaces at Bristol Mountain Home create a warm invitation in the evenings for a glass of wine, fine company, and a good book! The holidays of Christmas and New Years are festive at the Inn, yet peace filled!
SPRING
Springtime in Estes Park presents a balance of spectacular opportunity for photography with early blooming wildflowers, snow-capped peaks, dramatic skies, elk, moose and various bird species returning to the mountains… like the brilliant Mountain Blue Bird. From a hearty breakfast served at the Inn, follow your heart’s desire during the day, a quiet stroll thru the mountain village with the evening lights and dinner along the way – is perfect for a mix of adventure and relaxation. You might catch a bear waking up from hibernation!
SUMMER
Estes Park is a destination for many occasions besides family reunions and weddings. Horseback riding trails into the spectacular RMNP, kayaking, paddle boarding on Lake Estes, water fall hikes, mountain biking, E bikes, ATV rentals, golfing and birding. Tubing rentals are available in nearby Lyons for tubing the Little Thompson River. The summer festivals bring great food and creativity; like the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, Memorial Day Art Market, Wool Market, Taste of Estes, Roof Top Rodeo, 4th of July Celebration. It’s a brief walk from the Inn to the nearby Lake Estes, return to enjoy the rest of your evening outside by the fire pit, chatting with other guests or enjoy a good book!
FALL
When the sun glistens thru the golden aspen leaves they shimmer with delight! Join us for; the pipes of the Scottish-Irish Highland Festival, the rutting season during the Elk Fest, Autum Gold Festival, Rails in the Rockies, Thanksgiving parade and the magical Christmas lights lining the main street of Estes. How about gathering family or friends at the Inn for Thanksgiving! Or simply relax at the Inn before the busy holidays begin, and just relax by the fire pit and catch a glimpse of an eagle gliding over Lake Estes!
